When we think about local government, we often picture city halls, council chambers, and official bylaws. But the real heartbeat of a city isn’t found in a municipal building—it’s found on our streets, in our local parks, and right in our own neighborhoods.
True community building starts from the ground up. That is exactly why I founded the Highbush Neighbourhood Association.
As a proud Highbush resident, I realized early on that while our families share the same concerns—safer streets for our kids, smarter development, and reliable local infrastructure—we didn’t always have a collective way to make our voices heard. By establishing the neighborhood association, we gave our community a direct line to advocacy. We brought neighbors together, fostered deep connections, and ensured that our specific local issues couldn’t be ignored.
Why Local Connectedness Matters for Ward 1
When neighbors know one another, incredible things happen:
Safer Communities: We naturally look out for each other’s homes, children, and seniors. Programs like the Ajax-Pickering Road Watch thrive when grass-roots participation is strong.
A Collective Voice: City Hall listens more closely when a unified community presents a clear, organized vision for their neighborhood’s growth.
Resilience: From supporting local food banks to helping a neighbor clear snow, tight-knit communities step up for one another in times of need.
My Commitment to You
As your Ward 1 Councillor, my goal is to scale this collaborative mindset across Pickering. I want to empower every neighborhood in our ward to build its own strong network. Government shouldn’t just make decisions for you; it should collaborate with you.
Leadership means showing up where people live. Let’s keep working together to build a safer, more connected Pickering that every family is proud to call home.
